Built from the Lakes, Traditional Water Harvesting and Irrigation chapter. The locations, the structures and the harvesting vocabulary come from the state board's Rajasthan Adhyayan, Class 10, chapter 3; every figure comes from the Government of Rajasthan's Economic Review 2025-26, with the water-conservation provision from the Press Note to Budget 2026-27 of 11 February 2026. Where a question turns on a number, the answer names the document the number comes from.

How to use this page

The distractors are the point. Most are errors that are actually in circulation — the district a book still prints because it was written before 2023, the lake name that belongs to two districts at once, the figure that belongs to a different project on the same page of the Review. If a wrong option feels familiar, that is deliberate. Every answer carries a "why not the others" line, because in a paper with negative marking the skill being tested is elimination, not recognition.

Work in this order: Sections A and B cold, because locational recall is where most of the marks in this block sit; then C and D, which are pure vocabulary and reward being learnt as definitions; then E, which is the part that rots and has to be re-read each year against the current Review. Finish with the flashcards and the one-liners.

Section C — The eight traditional structures (Q16–24)

(b) Both halves are true and both are unusual, but they are two separate facts about the same structure, not a cause and its effect. The jhalara's water went to religious rites and communal bathing by use, not by any disability of its source; the missing catchment describes where its water comes from, not what it was for. Either half can carry a question on its own.

This is the cleanest distinction in the whole chapter and it is a social fact rather than an engineering one, which is what makes it worth a line in a Mains answer on traditional water management.

The four lake traps

Gadsisar = Jaisalmer, not Bikaner. Jaisamand = SALUMBER on the current map, Udaipur pre-2023; Alwar has Jai Sagar, a different body. Ummed Sagar and Pratap Sagar appear under both Jodhpur and Jaisalmer — a name alone is not an answer. Kaylana = Jodhpur, 1872 · Gaib (Gap) Sagar = Dungarpur · Chand Baori = Abhaneri, Dausa.

The salt lakes, with the districts that changed

  • Missed a number? Ask which document it came from. The lake dates and the structures come from the textbook; every irrigation figure comes from the Economic Review 2025-26, and figures marked "up to December" are nine-month positions.
  • Missed a structure? Learn one identifying detail each, and only one — the jhalara's missing catchment, the tanka's drinking water, the toba's twenty families, the beri's wooden planks.

Every question is derived from the parent chapter, whose Sources & Verification section lists what was checked and what was deliberately not asserted.

No PYQ is cited anywhere on this page. Question numbers here are our own, not RPSC's, and no question carries a year, a paper or a question number.

The split between the two kinds of source is carried into the answers. Locations, structures, dimensions and vocabulary come from the state board's Rajasthan Adhyayan, Class 10, chapter 3 — a printed volume with no stable link, cited in full rather than linked. Every figure on irrigation, the IGNP, the Narmada Canal, the Yamuna share and the PKC-ERCP link comes from the Economic Review 2025-26, and the water-conservation provision from the Press Note to Budget 2026-27 of 11 February 2026. A khadin's mechanism does not change; an irrigation total changes every year, which is why the answers name the edition.

Two things are kept provisional in the answers as they are in the chapter. Figures marked "up to December" are nine-month positions in 2025-26 and not results, and the Modified PKC-ERCP link is being built rather than delivering water — which is what Q37 and Q39 are for.

Rivers and drainage are not tested here. The parent chapter covers the lakes half of the Rivers and Lakes syllabus bullet together with irrigation; the Banas, Chambal, Luni and Mahi systems belong to a separate chapter and no question on this page assumes them.
